Saint Jerome Writing

1605-1606

Here we see St Jerome translating the Bible into Latin, from the original Hebrew and Greek.

As we follow his elongated arm, our eyes are directed to a reminder of our mortality.

It seems that no matter our calling in life, be a scholar or a shopkeeper, our ultimate mission remains the same.

We all bleed red.

Side note: The Saint seems to be so engrossed in his work, that he seems to dip his quill not into a jar of ink, but into the original manuscripts. Fitting.
