Saint John the Baptist

1513–1516

I: The voice of one crying in the wilderness, clothed with camel’s hair and eating locusts and honey.

II: The great artists understood that John had one mission: to always point us towards Christ, hence he is always portrayed doing so,

III: These were artists specifically commissioned by the Church, the Pope, to create real masterpieces that educated the illiterati.

IV: These great artists received very little fame or glory in their lifetime, and their art always pointed the viewer towards God, or forced them to look inwards, into their own souls.

V: I have a great love specifically for reflective baroque art, especially the pieces I’ve curated on this page.

VI: Paintings that stare into your soul, art that makes you think.

VII: Modern art on the other hand, is narcissistic and selfish, more about the artist’s personal egotistical self-expression, rather than trying to actually meet the viewer where they are.
