The Raising of Lazarus

1619

At this point, the disciples have seen it all. Blind men given sight. The lame walking. The dead, raised. So when Jesus calls Lazarus out of his tomb, they barely, react.

“Unbind him” Jesus commands, and before Lazarus can even take his first breath, this disciple is already untying him, like it’s just another Tuesday.

Other disciples are completely unfazed, not because they don’t believe, but because they do. One even gestures as though to say, “There he goes again.”

But not everyone is used to miracles. Contrast this with the sheer disbelief on the others’ faces. Some are frozen in awe. Others still cling to their grief, unable to process what they’re seeing.

Such a contrast in reactions, but what none of them realise, is that this is the moment that changes everything.

Unlike many of His other miracles, Jesus made a decision here. He didn’t tell people to keep quiet about this one. He, let his enemies hear about this.

And with that, they made their decision. That Jesus must die.

How poetic, that by raising someone else from the dead… he secured His own death.

Here, we see that even though the disciples had faith. They didn’t yet truly understand what it would ultimately cost.
